Of course, we all want her to bow out gracefully. Perhaps that is even the heroic thing to do. But comments on her hair, her weight, her pants suits, her method of clapping....let me tell you, if there is anything to bring that portion of the electorate back to her side, start attacking her as a woman. Wonderfully written.. not that I've been paying enough attention the last two weeks to know what sparked this specific one, but still. All I have to say is, once again, I love Edwards. Sigh.

Essentially, the blurbs used to prove their point boil down to "it's her decision to end it, if and when she decides to do so." While I initially found the arguments cringe-worthy, I don't believe Clinton's political machine is naive enough to be immune to the implications of this metaphor. In fact, I think her allies anticipated it and now incorporate it in their exit strategy. It is socially more acceptable for a woman to carry her child full term and to have it declared stillborn than it is to have an abortion. People know how to offer condolence to a mother who has lost. This sort of sympathy is not complicit to terminations. I’ve read a few articles that point out the reproductive metaphor in rhetoric about the demise of the Clinton campaign.
